Jacksonville Cell phone users don’t forget the National DO NOT CALL LIST

Saturday, December 20th, 2008

phoneREMINDER: CELL PHONE NUMBERS GO PUBLIC THIS MONTH! As a Jacksonville car accident attorney I have seen many clients hurt by drivers talking on their cell phones. The last thing I want to read about is a driver distracted by a telemarketer trying to call them.

All cell phone numbers are being released to telemarketing
companies tomorrow and you will start to receive sale calls.

IF YOU DO NOT HAVE AN UNLIMITED MINUTES PLAN …. YOU WILL BE CHARGED FOR THESE CALLS

To prevent this, call the following number from your cell phone:

888-382-1222

It is the National DO NOT CALL list. It will only take a minute of your time. It blocks your number for five (5) years.
You must call from the cell phone number you want to have blocked. You cannot call from a different phone number

Compassionatefriends.org: Support for those Jacksonville parents who have lost a child in an accident

Wednesday, June 25th, 2008

In our Jacksonville law practice we represent parents who have gone thru the nightmare of losing a child because of an accident. I recently came across a support group that is doing a great job of helping those parents. It is compassionatefriends.org.

The mission of The Compassionate Friends is to assist families toward the positive resolution of grief following the death of a child of any age and to provide information to help others be supportive.

The Compassionate Friends is a national nonprofit, self-help support organization that offers friendship, understanding, and hope to bereaved parents, grandparents and siblings. There is no religious affiliation and there are no membership dues or fees.

The secret of TCF’s success is simple: As seasoned grievers reach out to the newly bereaved, energy that has been directed inward begins to flow outward and both are helped to heal. The compassionate friends have chapters all over Florida including Jacksonville, Flagler and Lake City. I would encourage anyone who has suffered the horrible loss of a child to visit the website and contact your local chapter.

Jacksonville YMCA Offers Swim Lessons, even for those who cannot afford it

Wednesday, June 18th, 2008

poolThe YMCA of Jacksonville is offering swimming lessons and “no one will be turned away for an inability to pay”. The group is partnering with ethnic groups and youth programs for their “Make a Splash” program. The Jacksonville recreation department offers a learn to swim program in the summer for $40.

A national survey showed that six out of ten African American children and 56 percent of Hispanic kids cannot swim. Learning to swim will not only teach children a new sport but may also save their lives. In 2002, 40 percent of child drowning victims were minorities. Under Florida Statutes Ch. 515.29 the owner of a pool must have a fence around their pool. Even with a fence we encourage homeowners to constantly supervise kids in the pool.
