Bike to Work Day in Jacksonville

Sunday, May 30th, 2010

imagesAs a Jacksonville bicycle accident lawyer it is nice to see an effort to make it safer to bike in our city. It’s national Bike to Work Day, and police will escort three groups of cyclists on roads leading into downtown from locations in Arlington, Southside and Westside to Hemming Plaza. Meant to highlight cycling as an alternative way to commute, Jacksonville’s version of the annual ride has provided a chance for the city and its cycling community to gauge progress.

Opinion splits on whether the situation is getting better.

The League of American Bicyclists awarded Jacksonville honorable mention in its 2009 list of bicycle-friendly communities. Bicycling magazine ranked Jacksonville as one of the three worst cycling cities in America in this month’s edition. If you have been in a Jacksonville bicycle accident be sure to call an experienced Jacksonville bike accident attorney.

images-2Cemetery desecration continues in Florida. A Royal Palm Beach man has been charged with stealing more than $14,000 worth of brass cemetery vases.
The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office reports that 29-year-old Shaun Beasley was arrested Friday after trying to sell the vases to a local recycling company.
The vases were reported stolen Thursday night from the Our Lady Queen of Peace Cemetery. A detective began calling recycling companies Friday and learned that two men had offered to sell 70 vases to one of the companies.
Surveillance footage of a license plate at the cemetery led detectives to Beasley. A search of his home allowed deputies to find 61 vases, worth about $230 each.
Beasley was charged with theft and dealing in stolen property. He was being held on $5,000 bail. If your loved one has been the victim of cemetery desecration be sure to call an experienced cemetery lawer.
